Activity 2.3.1 Rangers, Anglers and Beavers
Exploratory
Probe basic facts and knowledge found in the video and article. (What research evidence supports _________?Type up several facts and basic knowledge from the video & article. Relate this to what you find in other resources, prior activities for stronger scores.))
In the article it is shown to explain why these conditions are occurring and how they started. In the article it states how they use an assessment called the “BLM” and is used to evaluate the impairments within the streams and streamside vegetation. Moreover, this is used because of the conditions it’s in, which are caused by wildfires, droughts and historical grazing practices. Furthermore, later in the article it does go to show how they’re solving for some of these conflicts. In the meantime they do have 2 conflicts: The first solution would be to have a one-two punch grazing management, and the second would be a beaver.
Now relating this situation to the video given by Trout unlimited shows how one of the farmers goes along to explaining how his landscape has changed along the way by pointing out how his stream is no longer a stream and now is just a pond considering that there are now pieces of the stream separated along the way and are individual pieces of land that contain water. However, one of the farmers whose name is Jesse Braatz tells us how each year slowly the water hidden along the valleys goes to last longer than usual and is a good sign that as time passes the water in those streams will be there longer to the point where they’ll last forever.
Diagnostics
Probe motives or causes. (Why?(Tell your reader why this occurs. Explain the causes in detail.))
Based on both the articles and the videos the reasons these things occur and get to where they are because of natural occurrences. In the article it goes on to tell us that the reason that this conflict is caused is because of natural wildfires as well as droughts along with historical grazing practices.
Cause and effects
Causal relationships between ideas, actions, or events. (If __________ occurs, what happens?)
The thing that both the article and the video share in common is that they both want the same thing obviously which is to fix their situation with their streams not properly placed where they’re supposed to be. Furthermore, both conflicts shared the same events in which they were both caused by some natural disasters which are wildfires along with droughts. And I would say that the relationships between them regarding events is more known to be a drought because in the video they do go to explain how their stream is just patches of water spread along the valley, but that year by year it keeps improving in filling in those patches to come along all in one. Overall, the both share the same effects of how their water isn’t the way it’s supposed to along with the causes with both of them being mostly involved with droughts.
Priority
Seek to identify the most important issue. (What is the most important issue?)
The most important issue involved in this is that there are patches of water that ruin their stream due to droughts and other natural disasters and for farmers depending on where they are it could affect their cattle and their way of running a farmer.
Application
Probe for relationships and connect theory to practice. (How does this apply to you? How is this related to culture as we have studied so far?)
The way that I would have this apply to me is that obviously this requires money in order to have the solutions they want. With that said it is best to always be on the lookout and see how we as a society can help these conflicts.
Critical
Analyze how this challenges your thinking/assumptions. (How did this change your thinking? Did it? Why?)
The way this changes my way of thinking is that when things like this happen it’s always best to keep in consideration that when it comes to natural disasters especially droughts to think about how it affects our environment moreover our streams that it could affect in how they flow by separating and creating patches of land.
