Activity 3.3.3.1 Current Event in Plastic Pollution

 1. Exploratory

In the article that was read showed and elaborated on how Diane Wilson was with a group of people cleaning a certain part of a beach near Point Comfort, Texas. In her research she discovered that during the event she had seen many plastic objects that had contained a certain chemical, which was a "Raw plastic Powder". Moreover, after she had discovered this she knew who it was, and after having that certain person accused, she had evidence that same boat had loaded about 2,400 pounds of the same sample containing the plastic powder that was found on the curbside of the ocean. Furthermore, it is believed that it was in the shape of a pellet, which she stated were about 46 million pellets that were released into the ocean. 

2. Diagnostics

After Diane had discovered this incident, she had also discovered who had done it. After investigating her case she found out that recently a boat had carried about 2,400 pounds of what had contained those plastic raw powders. Moreover, she had also discovered that they were delivered into the ocean in the form of a pellet and resulted in the amount of being about 46 million pellets that were made out of plastic and then dumped into the ocean. Furthermore, after this was discussed and was addressed by having the conclusion of banning those who violated the Clear Water Act involved in a lawsuit there are still other problems occurring that not a lot of people know about.  Looking further into the situation there are more ways that plastics are released into our oceans and one of those examples are called Nurdles. Nurdles are big blocks of things that are made up of all manner of plastic items. And the reason this happens is because of a plant made by Formosa and so with that said it was more about them making oil and gas into millions of pellets which is where the fisherman got their way of dumping it into the ocean. 

3. Cause and Effects

When dumping these certain pellets into the ocean there's a lot of things that can effect our oceans. And one of them is being able to make more microplastics spread more in the ocean. As well as it adds to our problem of adding pollution and making it a longer process to fight back this situation as well as helping climate change. And what helps causes this is are plants and having those plants corporations make their pollution and have them effect them making either pellets or something that can push plastics towards the oceans.

4. Priority

Overall, based on the article given by Diane Wilson the important issue is having to solve the problem microplastics within our environments. Furthermore, it has become a big problem considering that it is something that it hasn't been talked about a lot, and with more microplastics being released as well as raw plastic powder pellets which are both released from Power Plants and companies that make oils and other things that we use everyday.

5. Application

The way this would relate to me is because of how I use plastics and admitting that even I sometimes don't recycle. Moreover every human is responsible for these types of conflicts affecting not only our oceans, but as well as our lakes and rivers. In our culture it's become an everyday thing where we just ignore what we choose. And in this case it's more of an ignoring that conflict and well doing so it's affected us.

6.Critical

The way this would change my thinking is by starting to recycle more often and spread this type of information to those who don't know about these things happening. Moreover, at the end this did change my way of thinking because looking at this more of how this affects us it could harm us in how we are able to use the water for ourselves in drinking water and doing other things that help of survive.
